The Networking

We invite you to take a couple of hours out of your day to connect with others in the industry to discuss high level topics of real importance, develop new relationships and gain critical information. This is a rare opportunity to network with other CEOs and senior management professionals from charities, associations and other non-profit organisations. Ample opportunity will be given for you to discuss issues and network with others.

The Topic

Optometry Australia’s mission is to lead, engage and promote the optometry profession and community eye health. As the influential voice for the profession, it is Optometry Australia’s responsibility to raise the united concerns of the sector with decision makers and to influence the necessary changes to support a robust and growing optometry profession in line with the eye needs of Australians. Optometry Australia has successfully lobbied for many changes over the years however their recent campaign in 2015 was the largest and most concentrated it has ever launched.

Join other sector leaders to hear from CEO of Optometry Australia, Genevieve Quilty as she outlines the steps taken to launch this multi-pronged campaign aimed at the Federal Government. Genevieve will discuss the components of the campaign including launching petitions, creating media initiatives and using a grass roots approach.

In her address, Genevieve will highlight the results for the first year of the campaign including the tabling of the petition in mid-October 2015, and what Optometry Australia’s future initiatives will focus on.

The Speaker

Genevieve Quilty, Chief Executive Officer, Optometry Australia

Genevieve Quilty was appointed to the role of Chief Executive Officer of Optometry Australia in late 2011. Since her appointment she has generated significant change in the way this peak professional body delivers services to its members. Ms Quilty has focused on reinvigorating the federated organisation whose membership comprises over 90% of Australia’s optometrists and most recently, implemented a major rebrand which resulted in a new name and a strong, recalibrated business direction. The organisation’s mission to lead, engage and promote optometry, optometrists and community eye health is now embedded into everything the organisation does. Through this approach Optometry Australia has cemented its reputation as the influential voice for optometry.

Ms Quilty also represents Optometry Australia either as chair or committee member of the Professions Reference Group, the Optometry Board of Australia’s Regulatory Reference Committee, the Optometry Council of Australia and New Zealand, Vision 2020 and the Optometric Benefits Consultative.

Ms Quilty joined Optometry Australia (then Optometrists Association Australia) in 2008 as National Policy Manager bringing to the organisation a solid career working in senior policy and political roles in the Australian Government. This included chief of staff and senior policy adviser to the Federal Minister for Finance and Administration and senior policy adviser to the Federal Treasurer.

She holds degrees in political science and law from the Australian National University.
