On the Take 5 with Associations presented in partnership with ASI, we chat with John Winter, Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Restructuring Insolvency and Turnaround Association (ARITA), to see how they keep their members connected and engaged both through the pandemic and looking ahead to next year.
Our host Paul Ramsbottom, Managing Director of ASI, talks with John about the recent launch of the Learning Management System (LMS) platform that allowed ARITA to continue to deliver learning and interactions for members and generate revenue streams.
ARITA keeps its members connected and engaged through a series of online activities, direct meetings, member surveys, and constantly asking members for input on issues, such as policy change, to ensure two-way communication.
For many associations, it's challenging to know if members are engaged. ARITA relies on their state committees and division committees to go out and interact with others. "They are our eyes and our ears on the ground," reveals John.
John says, "What we've really learned from the LMS is it's giving far greater accessibility to members outside the capital cities. And it's giving members who can't travel or don't have time to travel far greater access as well. So, it's been a very positive evolution, and it's changed our revenue structure into the future."
"Moving forward, we will keep the face-to-face stuff, but that digital technology has become an absolutely integral part of how we offer our services," added John.
ARITA also recently implemented a Learn Now, Pay Later offer for their members. John says, "So one of the things that people wouldn't appreciate is insolvency going through its toughest time in history, insolvency is 50% below pre-COVID levels. So, our members have been doing it tough. We've been using our balance sheet to try and support them through that. And one of the easiest ways to do that is to let them attend the activities and pay for those things later."
John shares insights about their members and says, "Our members are really quite extraordinary in what they do. You wouldn't have a Virgin airline, and the town of Whyalla wouldn't exist if it wasn't for our members' work. Despite the reputation every day, our members are out there saving jobs, saving companies, saving towns."
By embracing digital technology, ARITA can create learning opportunities for members and provide support during the pandemic and the future. Click the link to give it a watch.
