The Topic

The tax laws as they apply to NFPs and charities in Australia are complex and daunting. If you are new to NFP sector and want to gain a solid understanding of tax basics, or if you have been working in the NFP sector for some time but need a refresher, this course is for you. This seminar will cover:

  • How tax exemptions apply to different types of charitable and NFP organisations;
  • How to go about accessing these tax exemptions (eg. registration and endorsement requirements);
  • Navigating tax exemptions at a federal and state level;
  • How to be registered as a charity or obtain DGR status and the associated advantages and disadvantages;
  • Organisational obligations and how to ensure tax compliance; and
  • The concept of mutuality.
