The position

The Board of the Tertiary Education Facilities Management Association (TEFMA) seeks to appoint an outstanding Executive Officer to lead the organisation into its next phase of growth. The Executive Officer will build on TEFMA’s prominence as an influential membership association for organisations across the tertiary education sector encompassing property and facilities management in Australia and New Zealand.

Reporting to the President of the Board, the Executive Officer is responsible for the effective management of the organisation and should encompass development of strategic and financial plans with a focus on growth and continued member engagement, together with improved day to day operations for the approval by the Board. Overseeing a membership of over 73 organisations, the Executive Officer is also accountable for building the association’s reputation and profile, engaging and managing external stakeholders and providing high level advice to the Board on operations and planning.

The organisation
TEFMA is a professional association providing services to its institutional and Business Partner members, who work in diverse roles managing higher education physical infrastructure.

TEFMA supports professional excellence in tertiary education property and facilities management, by hosting a broad annual programme of networking and professional development events and by providing its members with access to valuable sector information and networks.

TEFMA members manage some 16.4 million square metres of gross floor area, within facilities with a replacement value of some $69.8 billion (AUD) spending over $1.19 billion (AUD) annually to build, maintain and operate these assets. TEFMA’s ongoing support of its members plays an important role in the effective management of these valuable higher education resources.

What you will need to succeed

The successful candidate will be an exceptional executive with proven experience and credibility in driving growth and operational excellence. Equipped with experience gained in tertiary education property and facilities management or other relevant discipline, the [Executive Officer] will demonstrate a track record of influencing high level external relationships and possess well developed financial and operational management skills. Applications will be considered from excellent candidates that have experience and relevant tertiary qualifications (or equivalent experience) required. An AICD qualification will be highly regarded.
