    The Networking

We invite you to take a couple of hours out of your day to connect with others in the industry to discuss high level topics of real importance, develop new relationships and gain critical information. This is a rare opportunity to network with other CEOs and senior management professionals from charities, associations and other non-profit organisations. Ample opportunity will be given for you to discuss issues and network with others.

    The Topic

Modern Leadership Principles in Challenging Times

Join Marcus as he discusses how to navigate leadership in today’s challenging environment in which change is perpetual.

“In many ways I feel that a relatively difficult trading environment in Australia in recent years has created a short-term mentality and hesitant decision making. It’s time for us to break free from that and I hope to articulate some of the reasons and ways during this session.”

    The Speaker

Marcus Stafford, Chief Executive Officer, MSWA

Marcus Stafford has held senior management positions in large and small organisations around the world. Industries have included banking, freight forwarding/logistics, management consulting and not-for-profit.

Marcus is currently the CEO of MSWA in Western Australia, an organisation with over $55 million in revenue and 750 staff. He has also led the turnaround of the MS Society in South Australia and the Northern Territory.

Prior to his roles in not-for-profit organisations, Marcus’ background was entirely in commercial business, having held the position of Head of Retail Banking for BankWest for 12 years. In 2015 Marcus won AIM’s national award for Australia’s Not-For-Profit Manager/CEO of the Year and in 2017 was made a Member of the Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

Topic: Millennials and Associations - How to attract and retain the next generation of members

Survey Matters has conducted independent research into Millennials and their behaviours and attitudes toward associations; particularly in the areas of:

    • Why they do (or, more importantly don't) join
    • Professional development
    • Content delivery
    • Service models
    • Culture and engagement
Join us to hear how to remove barriers of participation and explore their membership needs, preferences and the challenges Millennials face, and how associations can capitalise on trends and opportunities to best attract and serve millennial members in the  future.

    Presenter: Brenda Mainland

Brenda Mainland is a Co-Founder and Director at Survey Matters – the leading research and insights agency for member-based and for-purpose organisations.   Specialising in the association sector, Survey Matters works with organisations to help them understand members’ challenges and perspectives on belonging and delivers insights to craft strategies that improve engagement, retention, revenue and growth.

Prior to co-founding Survey Matters in 2010, Brenda worked for and with multi-national corporate and government organisations, in roles as diverse as project and general management, outsourcing, business planning and strategy, relationship management and sales.  These organisations included Optus, Vodafone, Hewlett Packard, BlueScope, the Australian Communication & Media Authority and the Victorian Department of Transport.
