Women in Association Leadership #WIAL - Melbourne
AuSAE are proud to bring back Women in Association Leadership #WIAL for 2018, after a successful launch last year. The networking series provides a platform to showcase and celebrate women in leadership who have led the way.
With no other event like this for our association leaders in the marketplace, we are delighted to bring like-minded women together to build support networks and develop professional and personal skills.
Our two inaugural events held in 2017 were an overwhelming success selling out in both Melbourne and Brisbane.
The theme for the 2018 series is women leading in traditionally male led industries with events being held in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney.
Each event will welcome three inspiring women, who will share their journeys, challenges and advice in a facilitated and interactive discussion.
Hon Trish White, President, Engineers Australia
Trish is National President and Chair of the Board of Engineers Australia. A professional company director, she serves on the boards of CHL group of companies and chairs boards in the insurance, property, manufacturing and university sectors. As an Executive Director of professional services and business advisory firm, Slingsby Taylor, she provides business advisory services to boards and executives of both commercial and not-for-profit organisations.
Formerly, Trish was Executive Strategic Advisor for WorleyParsons Ltd, working in the global resources and energy industries. That followed a career as a cabinet minister in the South Australian government, where she served in the infrastructure, development, transport, science and education portfolios.
Previously, her career had been in applied research with the Defence Science and Technology Organisation. Prior to that, she managed national infrastructure projects in Canberra. Trish is an experienced professional company director, having served on the boards of several large Australian companies. She is a Fellow of the College for Leadership and Management and the AICD.
Denita Wawn, Chief Executive Officer, Master Builders Australia
Denita is one of Australia's leading industry and business advocates and the first female CEO of Master Builders in its 127 years history. Denita's has a wealth of experience from more than 20 years at the forefront of public policy advocacy and politics.
From 2012-2016 Denita was CEO of the Brewers Association of Australia and New Zealand where her duties included representing the interests of multinational companies to federal and state policy makers and regulators. Her acheivements included a highly successful reputational change strategy for the organisation at a national and international levels.
For more than a decade's Denita led industrial relations policy and advocacy for major industries as General Manager Workplace & Corporate Relations at the National Farmers Federation (NFF) and as National Manager Workplace Relations at the Australian Hotels Associations (AHA). She also served as Executive Director of the AHA's Tasmanian Branch.
Denita's corporate governance experience includes roles as Chair of the Worldwide Brewers Alliance and the Alcohol Beverages Advertising Code (ABAC) Scheme and as Director of Hostplus Industry Superannuation Fund.
Denita was born and educated in Hobart, Tasmania, undertaking a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws at the University of Tasmania.
Sarah Styles, Head of Female Engagement, Cricket Australia
Sarah Styles is the Head of Female Engagement for Cricket Australia, responsible for driving the greater involvement and inclusion of women and girls as players, athletes, fans and employees. Significant progress is already being made, most notably the transformation and professionalisation of women’s elite cricket, rapid increases in the number of women and girls playing cricket, and the KFC Big Bash League’s gender-balanced crowds. In addition, each major initiative is being matched by countless seen and unseen changes to ensure cricket is genuinely 'A Sport for All'.
Prior to joining Cricket Australia, Sarah's background was in investment banking and corporate advisory roles, largely with Macquarie, working in mergers and acquisitions, before joining Medibank ahead of its IPO. An unexpected offer led to her making the move next to the MCG in late 2014, stepping into the newly created Head of Female Engagement role.
With her husband, former golf professional Ben Styles, Sarah is also the owner of industry disruptor X-Golf, the largest network of golf simulation centres in Australia and New Zealand.
