Women in Association Leadership #WIAL - Brisbane
AuSAE are proud to bring back Women in Association Leadership #WIAL for 2018, after a successful launch last year. The networking series provides a platform to showcase and celebrate women in leadership who have led the way.
With no other event like this for our association leaders in the marketplace, we are delighted to bring like-minded women together to build support networks and develop professional and personal skills.
Our two inaugural events held in 2017 were an overwhelming success selling out in both Melbourne and Brisbane.
The theme for the 2018 series is women leading in traditionally male led industries with events being held in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney.
Each event will welcome a panel of inspiring women, who will share their journeys, challenges and advice in a facilitated and interactive discussion.
Antonia Mercorella, Chief Executive Officer, Real Estate Institute of Queensland
Antonia Mercorella is the CEO of the Real Estate Institute of Queensland – the first woman in its 100-year history and the youngest person to take on the role.
Antonia is a solicitor specialising in property law and has previously been the General Counsel for the REIQ and prior to that, General Counsel for the REISA.
Antonia and the REIQ played an instrumental role in the introduction of new legislation governing real estate agents, the Property Occupations Act, which has significantly improved life for property practitioners and real estate consumers in Queensland.
At times unconventional, Antonia’s education includes a Bachelor of Educational Theatre and a Bachelor of Laws with Honours from the University of Adelaide.
Her background includes marketing roles with the State Theatre Company of South Australia and a range of senior legal positions in both private practice and in-house roles.
She is the mother of two very lively young boys and lives with her husband, also a solicitor, in Brisbane.
Mell Greenall, Executive Director QLD, Australian Institute of Architects
Mell Greenall is the current Executive Director of the Queensland chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects. With a Bachelor of Science, Sustainability and a Masters in Business Administration she works closely with the Institutes members in the areas of advocacy and engagement. Mell is currently holding positions on numerous State government advisory panels and reference groups driving industry reform across the construction sector. Non conforming building products has been an area of focus, including the impacts of on legislation, insurance and industry confidence.
With a strong career history in industry organisations and government advocacy Mell recognizes the importance of active participation in legislative reform and policy development that can have significant impacts on professionals and their livelihoods. She is a firm believer in the significant role industry bodies can play in advocating for members at both state and federal levels. Her career is also supported by 10 years contract management in the energy sector ensuring a strong commercial mindset towards driving growth and sustainable business practices.
Hon Trish White, President, Engineers Australia
Trish is National President and Chair of the Board of Engineers Australia. A professional company director, she serves on the boards of CHL group of companies and chairs boards in the insurance, property, manufacturing and university sectors. As an executive director of professional services and business advisory firm, Slingsby Taylor, she provides business advisory services to boards and executives of both commercial and not-for-profit organisations.
Formerly, Trish was Executive Strategic Advisor for WorleyParsons Ltd, working in the global resources and energy industries. That followed a career as a cabinet minister in the South Australian government, where she served in the infrastructure, development, transport, science and education portfolios.
Previously, her career had been in applied research with the Defence Science and Technology Organisation. Prior to that, she managed national infrastructure projects in Canberra. Trish is an experienced professional company director, having served on the boards of several large Australian companies. She is a Fellow of the College for Leadership and Management and the AICD.
Penny Cornah, Executive Director, Master Plumbers’ Association of Queensland
Penny Cornah is the Executive Director of the Master Plumbers’ Association of Queensland (MPAQ).
MPAQ is a peak industry body representing plumbing contractors throughout Queensland from sole operators to medium sized plumbing businesses through to large contracting firms.
Penny has been employed with the Association for more than twelve years and previously held the role of Member Services Manager. Penny is well known to MPAQ members and works closely with them and the Board on the raft of issues which currently face the industry.
Penny identifies her role as heading the organisation that is the conduit between protecting community health and the environment. Penny is a strong leader in a male dominated industry and has earned respect throughout the plumbing fraternity. She has developed strong relationships within the Queensland Government ensuring the industry’s voice is heard at the highest levels.
Penny was appointed as a Director to Master Plumbers Australia Ltd in 2012 and was appointed as the Secretariat role for Master Plumbers Australia in 2015. Penny was appointed as a Director of QLeave in July 2016 and also the Chair of the Service Trades Council, a role in which she is humbled to be given. Penny was also appointed as a Director of Construction Skills Queensland in October 2017.
