Women in Association Leadership #WIAL - Sydney
AuSAE are proud to bring back Women in Association Leadership #WIAL for 2018, after a successful launch last year. The networking series provides a platform to showcase and celebrate women in leadership who have led the way.
With no other event like this for our association leaders in the marketplace, we are delighted to bring like-minded women together to build support networks and develop professional and personal skills.
Our two inaugural events held in 2017 were an overwhelming success selling out in both Melbourne and Brisbane.
The theme for the 2018 series is women leading in traditionally male led industries with events being held in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney.
Each event will welcome three inspiring women, who will share their journeys, challenges and advice in a facilitated and interactive discussion.
Alexia Hilbertidou, Founder, GirlBoss New Zealand
Alexia is 19-years-old and has just finished high-school, yet her love of women’s empowerment has led her to a level of influence well beyond her years.
At 16, Alexia founded GirlBoss NZ (www.girlboss.nz) an organisation which encourages young women to embrace STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths), Leadership and Entrepreneurship. GirlBoss is New Zealand’s second largest young women's network with over 9000 passionate school aged nationwide. In Australia, our youth led Brisbane based chapter, Changemakeher, has been creating dynamic events to empower women since 2017.
At 18, Alexia was selected by the US Embassy and NASA to seek new stars and planets on the NASA SOFIA mission
Alexia’s passion for gender equity is why she was named a Top 30 Global Teen Leader Young Leader and the most influential New Zealand woman under the age of 25 at the 2016 Westpac Women of Influence Awards .
In July, Alexia was received a Queen’s Young Leader medal for services to the commonwealth from Her Majesty, the Queen. At 19, Alexia is the youngest Commonwealth Citizen to hold this title.
Amelia Hodge, Chief Executive Officer, Australian Property Institute
Amelia is the CEO of the Australian Property Institute and has enjoyed a senior executive career spanning some 25 years, with her depth of experience driving successful outcomes across a range of sectors, projects and industries.
She has held CEO, executive and project roles with the Qld Law Society, Origin Energy, Powerlink Queensland, the Cross River Rail Delivery Authority and Coffey Commercial Advisory, following her legal career in the property sector.
Amelia currently sits as an independent representative on the Council for the Order of Australia. She has held Non Executive Directorships with Transmax, the Gladstone Water Board, Lexon Insurance, 3rd Space and Artisan Qld, has chaired board audit and risk committees and sits on the advisory board of tech startup LawAdvisor. On behalf of the Qld Office for Woman, Amelia also sat on the Great Artesian Basin Advisory Council.
Amelia holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Graduate Certificate in Property Economics from Queensland University of Technology and has undertaken the Harvard Kennedy School of Government Infrastructure in the Market Economy programme. She is a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is mother to 20 year old Isobel and 19 year old Oscar.
Helen Badger, Director, National Association of Women in Construction
Helen is a Director of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) and is the current Chair. In this role Helen provides guidance and support for the organisation to have a stronger voice in the industry while maintaining and enhancing the support for individual women. Helen advocates for the construction industry to recognise that teams that have a greater gender balance will bring greater social and economic opportunities. With Chapters in all the States and Territories Helen provides the support and guidance to extend the reach and influence of NAWIC.
Helen is also a Director for the Australian Gender Council a newly formed organisation established to bring all groups together who are advocating for equality to present a united and National approach.
Helen sees firsthand the challenges faced by women both at the front line and in the executive areas. Helen's approach to advocating for women is to embrace and encourage all levels of government, corporates, contractors and individuals (men and women) to create a workplace that reflects the community that we all live in.
With strong organisational skills from her day job Helen is also able to dedicate time as a Director to the Canberra Police and Citizens Youth Club, an organisation that provides services to youths and families at risk with the aim to short circuit the pathway to crime and unemployment.
