Strategy and planning – Where are you heading?... -
The primary purpose of strategic planning is to focus the association on what is crucial to serving the association's members, and by extension the profession or industry the association represents. It also provides a means of quantifying and measuring organizational and programmatic success.
Associations have moved beyond event-centric strategic planning to ongoing strategic management. In such cases association leaders are always strategically focused and routinely engage in strategic thinking as they perform their various roles. The strategic planning process becomes a periodic activity to step back, rethink and reassess the association's mission and the relevance of goals and strategies currently in play.
