Resource Industry Network is looking for a proactive, organised and friendly Business Support Officer to join our Mackay team.
This is a varied, hands-on role for someone who enjoys being an all-rounder. One day you might be supporting an industry event, and the next you could be preparing a newsletter, assisting a member, updating records or processing a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC) application.
You do not need previous mining or METS experience. We are looking for someone who is curious, willing to learn and interested in supporting the businesses and people that drive our region’s resource sector.
About Resource Industry Network
Resource Industry Network, or RIN, is a not-for-profit industry association representing businesses across the Mackay, Isaac and Whitsunday mining, resources and METS sectors.
We work to connect, develop and promote our region’s resource industry and supply chain through events, advocacy, communications, member support and opportunities to build valuable industry relationships.
You will join a small, dynamic and supportive team that works hard, enjoys what we do and pitches in when things get busy.
About the Role
The Business Support Officer helps keep RIN’s day-to-day operations running smoothly across administration, member support, events, MSIC processing and basic marketing and communications.
The role would suit someone who enjoys variety, likes working with people and takes pride in getting the details right.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide general administrative support, including phone and email enquiries, filing, data entry, document preparation and office coordination.
- Assist with member services, database updates, record keeping and day-to-day operational tasks.
- Prepare and process Maritime Security Identification Card applications accurately and in line with required procedures.
- Support the planning and delivery of RIN events, including registrations, attendee lists, supplier coordination, event materials and follow-up.
- Assist with communications and marketing tasks, including short updates, newsletters, event information, simple promotional materials and social media scheduling.
- Work with the team to provide professional, timely and helpful support to members, partners and stakeholders.
- Pitch in across the organisation when needed - this is a true all-rounder role.
About You
You are friendly, reliable and organised, with strong attention to detail and a willingness to get involved.
You enjoy working with people, feel comfortable learning new systems and can manage several priorities without losing track of the details.
Skills and Experience
- Previous experience in administration, business support, reception, customer service, events or a similar role.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good organisation and time-management skills.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly when working with applications and records.
- Confidence using Microsoft 365 and other digital platforms.
- A positive, proactive and solutions-focused approach.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
Experience with Canva, CRM systems, email marketing platforms, social media scheduling tools or accounting software would be well regarded but is not essential.
Additional Requirements
- Applicants must be eligible to work in Australia.
- Applicants must be eligible to obtain and maintain an MSIC card.
- Some early morning or evening event support may be required from time to time.
What We Offer
- A varied role where no two days are exactly the same.
- Exposure to the mining, resources and METS industries.
- Experience across administration, events, communications and member engagement.
- A fun, dynamic and supportive team environment.
- The opportunity to contribute to a respected regional industry organisation.
Not Sure You Tick Every Box?
Some parts of the role may be a great fit, while others may be new to you. That is okay.
If the role interests you and you bring the right attitude, transferable skills and willingness to learn, we encourage you to apply or get in touch for a conversation.
How to Apply
Please email your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your relevant experience and why you would be a great addition to the RIN team to dean@rin.org.au by Monday, 17 August 2026.
