Networking Lunch (Melbourne): How do Associations Remain Relevant in the New Economy?

The Networking

We invite you to take a couple of hours out of your day to connect with others in the industry to discuss high level topics of real importance, develop new relationships and gain critical information. This is a rare opportunity to network with other CEOs and senior management professionals from charities, associations and other non-profit organisations. Ample opportunity will be given for you to discuss issues and network with others.

The Topic

In an extremely competitive environment, membership-based businesses are under immense pressure to remain ‘relevant’.

However, the continued emergence of membership-based business models such as Netflix, Spotify, Microsoft Office 365, Apple Music, Dollar Shave Club, and Dropbox highlight the immense opportunity for Associations by remaining relevant to existing and new audiences.

This session will look at the ways your Association can remain relevant using the live example of the Australian Physiotherapy Association.

The Speaker
Cris Massis, Chief Executive Officer at the Australian Physiotherapy Association

Cris is accountable to the 22,500+ members of the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA).

The APA is the peak body for physiotherapy in Australia, representing physiotherapists, academics, students and practice managers. The organisation is focused on membership, professional development, advocacy and the provision of relevant member services. The organisation has an annual turnover of $15m with 70 staff across a national footprint.

Cris has had a diverse career in membership associations over 18 years across the disciplines of sales and marketing, business development, policy development and management.

He has held positions at the Bob Jane Corporation, St Kilda Football Club, CPA Australia and is currently the Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Physiotherapy Association.

He also serves on the Board of Allied Health Professions Australia (AHPA) as Deputy Chairperson, Board sub-committee of Red Nose (formerly SIDS and Kids), is a trustee of two research foundations and provides mentoring services to women in senior management roles.

Cris has completed a Bachelor of Applied Science, Graduate Diploma in Sport Business, an MBA, the AICD Company Directors course and the Executive Program in International Management at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
